Riding on the Beach

Riding on the beach in Fairfield is still a hotly contested issue in our community. Every few years residents attempt to prohibit horses from using the beach. The reasons are multiple: parents fear the safety of their children, dog owners are disgusted by their dogs eating manure, and frankly many people are just afraid of horses. Also, many riders are not local and are not respectful of our residents and facilities.

Nevertheless, the FBTA goes to bat lobbying, testifying, and attending numberous lengthy town meetings to protect this privilege when it is challenged.  Riding on the beach is still permitted because of our efforts, therefore, if you plan to ride on the beach please show your apprecation by becoming a member of the FBTA. Please join today!

Rules

In 2008 the town narrowly conceded to continue to allow riding on the beach. Their conditions are simple but absolutely must be obeyed or we will loose our riding privileges.

  •  Horse owners MUST MUST MUST clean up after their horses anywhere on the beach and in the parking area. Take all of your manure with you!
  • Horses are permitted on the beach at low tide only and must ride BELOW the high tide line (including crossing jetties). Low tide  can be found by referencing this link: www.mobilegeographics.com:81/calendar/month/731.html
  • Horses must stay 50 feet away from walkers, dogs, buildings, the playground or anything else that might endanger others.
  • Trucks and trailers should be parked in the back of the parking lot or in the far lot so residents are not inconvenienced. Take your manure with you! Do not leave ANYTHING in the parking lot.
  • Access the beach to the left of the snack bar and proceed directly down to the water, below the high tide line. If you ride off to the right you must cross the end of the jetty IN the water, therefore it is very important to time your ride exactly at low tide as it is still quite deep.
  • The beach is open for riding from October 1st to March 31st

Ride on the beach during the week! The beach is crowded on the weekends and there are more risks of incidents when there are many people around.

Please be courteous! Do not be the reason we are all banned from the beach!
